About Mattawa Museum
Mattawa Museum, operated by the Mattawa & District Historical Society, shares the stories, people, and heritage of Mattawa and the surrounding region in Ontario. Located where two rivers meet, the museum explores local history through collections, exhibits, community resources, and heritage interpretation. Its subjects include Indigenous history and the traditional unceded Algonquin territory, the fur trade, lumbering, local businesses, geology, and the communities of Mattawa and nearby townships. Visitors can also learn about notable local characters, veterans, and landmarks such as Explorer’s Point, Big Joe Mufferaw, the Brent Crater, and the Mica Mine.
The museum welcomes visitors to explore its galleries and attend events and exhibitions, including special programs listed on its calendar. Guided tours are available by request from November through April. Seasonal admission is offered for adults, seniors, students, and families, with individual and family passes also available. The gift shop carries books, masks, T-shirts, arts and crafts, and other items.
