Judo Club Mattenfüchse Köln-Südstadt e. V. is a community sports club dedicated to judo and youth participation in Cologne’s Südstadt district.
Founded in 1972 by Kurt Fuchs, a holder of the 7th Dan, the club has built a long-standing programme around regular training and involvement in the sport. It has approximately 90 members, around 85 percent of whom are children and young people. Members take part in judo tournaments at district, regional and state levels, while the club also hosts activities that bring its community together.
These include Nikolaus and friendly tournaments, club championships, and JudoSafari, a recreational sports event initiated by the German Judo Federation. Each summer, the club organises a weekend retreat at a youth hostel, combining sporting activities, excursions and shared time. The club’s website introduces judo, explains its training offer and provides information about schedules, locations and membership.
Since April 2026, Mattenfüchse has used the Spond app for scheduling and communication, with prospective members able to submit a membership request for board approval
