ERA Chair MATTER is a pioneering research initiative based at the University of Tartu, dedicated to exploring nanoscale material behavior in complex environments. The center aims to upscale the control of nanomaterials for interdisciplinary use across various fields. MATTER specializes in groundbreaking research in biomedical applications, including nanomedicine, drug delivery, and regenerative medicine, as well as renewable energy sources and advanced electronic applications.

By leveraging the expertise of diverse research groups, MATTER focuses on sustainable nanofabrication methods and innovative solutions to material challenges, ranging from CERN accelerator design to cancer therapy. The center emphasizes overcoming obstacles posed by the need for specialized cleanrooms and expensive equipment, enabling the development of low-tech control systems for nanomaterials. Through a combination of simulation and experimentation, ERA Chair MATTER strives to simplify and widen access to nanotechnology beyond traditional high-tech environments, fostering advancements in interdisciplinary research and large-scale applications. This initiative is supported by funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program.
