Max Weber Stiftung

The Max Weber Stiftung (MWS) is a prominent foundation supporting German humanities research abroad, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research with an annual budget of approximately 48 million euros. Recognized as one of the largest public law foundations in Germany, MWS operates through a network of eleven institutes worldwide, including locations in Paris, London, Moscow, and Washington, D.C.

The foundation promotes academic freedom and quality assurance by facilitating diverse research projects across various disciplines. Among its key initiatives are the “Ends of War” project and collaborative programs focusing on geopolitics and cultural studies in regions such as Eastern Europe and Asia. MWS also creates opportunities for early-career researchers through fellowships and grants, including the Bloch-Weber Fellowships and the Gerald D. Feldman Travel Grants.

Their engaging events, including symposia and colloquiums, foster dialogue among scholars, while publications, podcasts, and newsletters further disseminate their research findings and insights.
