Mazda Ekiden

Mazda Ekiden is a unique long-distance relay race that marries the essence of competitive sports with the rich cultural heritage of Japan. Since its inception in 2015, Mazda de Mexico Vehicle Operation (MMVO) has hosted this exciting event in Salamanca, Guanajuato, aimed at fostering community interaction and promoting Japanese culture. The race, inspired by the historical Tokaido route where messengers conveyed important messages, features teams of runners passing the "tasuki," a symbolic sash representing teamwork and shared achievement.

Open to all, it has attracted over 23,000 participants from various municipalities within Guanajuato and beyond. Despite disruptions caused by the pandemic from 2020 to 2023, the event transitioned to a virtual format, inviting international teams from countries such as Japan, the U.S., Canada, and others to join in. With the celebration of its 10th anniversary and a return to live racing in 2024, Mazda Ekiden promises to be a vibrant showcase of athleticism and camaraderie in its upcoming iteration.
