About Mboni Ya Vijana
Mboni Ya Vijana is a volunteer-run grassroots community non-profit organization based in Kigoma, rural Tanzania. With a mission to create a better world for the youth, this organization is dedicated to taking action and making a positive impact in their community. Founded by Benedicto Hosea, who grew up in a family of subsistence farmers, Mboni Ya Vijana aims to address the challenges of poor harvests and widespread food insecurity caused by damaging and unsustainable farming practices.
Benedicto himself faced numerous obstacles in pursuing an education, working for two years to save money for school fees. His experiences fueled his determination to fight hunger and inequality. Mboni Ya Vijana offers a range of programs and projects to tackle these issues head-on.
They drill shallow boreholes to provide clean water to schools and villages, support farmer training through micro-finance schemes, and promote sustainable farming practices. Additionally, they have built greenhouses and expanded fruit and vegetable production to improve the local diet. The organization also focuses on environmental conservation, with initiatives such as tree-planting programs and reducing deforestation.
They have invested in crop processing machinery to minimize food waste and have collaborated with Penn State University to develop a high-tech system for monitoring crop disease through mobile phones. To continue their work, Mboni Ya Vijana seeks support in various ways, such as transportation resources and promoting IT literacy among the next generation of farmers. They envision transforming Zeze into a trading center and fostering more connections between rural areas and larger towns.
Through their projects, Mboni Ya Vijana empowers women, promotes climate education, fosters entrepreneurship, and installs water pumps in schools and communities. Their collaboration with the Tanzania Development Trust allows them to access clean water and implement tree planting initiatives. Join Mboni Ya Vijana in their mission to create a brighter future for the youth and contribute to sustainable development in rural Tanzania
