The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy champions the sustainability of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve for the benefit of this and future generations. As stewards, we connect the community to the Preserve through education, research, advocacy, partnerships and safe, respectful access. The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy is a non-profit conservation organization that relies on our more than 650 volunteers to help protect and promote Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Our work includes providing public access to Preserve, protecting the Preserve through research and stewardship, and increasing the community's understanding and appreciation of the Preserve through educational programs and community events. About McDowell Sonoran Conservancy
McDowell Sonoran Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that has been advocating for and championing the Sonoran Desert for over three decades. We have become one of the leading volunteer organizations in the nation, partnering in scientific research and providing vital education for our community. Our mission is to celebrate science, education, and stewardship.
Located in Scottsdale, the McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a living treasure, spanning more than 30,500 acres. With over 225 miles of recreational trails, it offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and create lifelong memories. Access to the Preserve is free, and it is open from sunrise to sunset.
We are proud to have the Parsons Field Institute, where we use scientific approaches to manage the diverse animals, plants, and natural resources of the Sonoran Desert. Through research, preservation projects, and citizen science, we contribute to invasive species control, ecological restoration, and the conservation of native species. Education is a core focus for us, as we provide valuable information about the Preserve, including its flora, fauna, geology, and history.
By enhancing the understanding and appreciation of this living treasure, we aim to enrich the visitor's experience. Our steward programs offer diverse opportunities for volunteers to support various initiatives, from trail patrolling to public outreach. Each volunteer brings unique contributions that help us fulfill our mission and vision.
