MD Chess

The Maryland Chess Association supports chess across Maryland and the wider Washington, D. C., Virginia, and DMV region. Its website serves players, families, and organizers with tournament information, registration resources, standings, pairings, results, and chess news.

The association promotes competitive play for adults and young players through major open events, local tournaments, and scholastic competitions, including K–12 championships and age- or grade-based events. Its calendar features tournaments hosted in communities such as Rockville, Tysons, and Owings Mills, as well as prominent events including the Chesapeake Open, Baltimore Open, Washington International, and Maryland Sweet 16. The organization also recognizes Maryland representatives competing in national invitational championships and provides stipends to eligible state representatives, including players in senior, high-school, girls’, middle-school, elementary-school, and K–3 events.

In addition to tournament coverage and player achievements, the association shares chess-related articles, photos, and podcast features. With resources for finding events and following competition, the Maryland Chess Association connects the regional chess community and encourages participation at many levels
