Means Aquatics

Johnnie Means Aquatics (JMA), home of the TigerSharks, is an inclusive aquatic program focused on expanding access to swimming, water safety, and competition. Its mission is to provide affordable, high-quality opportunities for swimmers, particularly those from historically underrepresented communities, to thrive in and beyond the water. JMA offers programming for swimmers at different stages, from learning to swim to competing at senior levels, supported by intentional coaching and family partnership. The program emphasizes strong fundamentals, discipline, confidence, resilience, and personal growth alongside athletic development.

Water-safety education is central to JMA’s work, which also includes community outreach and events such as International Water Safety Day. The organization aims to create pathways from swim lessons to competitive swimming, and to introduce young people to opportunities in coaching, lifeguarding, teaching, and other aquatic careers. With a vision of combining access and excellence, JMA seeks to develop skilled athletes, future leaders, and a stronger, more diverse aquatic community. Its approach puts swimmer development, service, and opportunity alongside competitive achievement.
