Madi Dian

Mecharithm Lab is a research and education lab focused on integrating mechatronics and algorithms to build physical artificial intelligence for human-robot teaming. Its work aims to help robots interpret human intent and translate it into actions in real-world settings, while advancing robotics and AI education. The lab researches multimodal intent recognition, human-robot interaction, and vision-language-action models that connect language and visual information with robot behavior.

Its projects include conversational interaction models for mobile manipulators, systems for recognizing human intent from multiple signal types, and approaches that use large language models and natural language processing to help mobile robots and assistive robotic arms understand and carry out complex commands. The research also considers operation in edge-computing environments with limited or no cloud connectivity. Mecharithm Lab develops open-source tools and shares its work through research publications, outreach, teaching, and awards. Its team includes graduate and undergraduate students, particularly from mechanical engineering and computer science, who collaborate on robotics and technology projects intended to benefit society.
