The Medical Physics Program Group at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Ljubljana is an interdisciplinary research group focused on applying physical processes and technologies to medicine. Its work aims to advance medical imaging and treatment, support clinical practice, and improve understanding of complex diseases. The group’s research spans three main areas.

In imaging, it develops sensitive, reliable detector technologies and quantitative image analysis to identify important imaging biomarkers. In therapy, its interests include recognizing and targeting treatment resistance, developing adaptive particle-therapy plans, exploring targeted therapies for neurodegenerative brain disorders, and monitoring treatment through theranostics. Its modeling research uses advanced physical models, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to analyze data and represent processes involved in laser and thermal therapies.

The group also shares research through projects, publications, public activities, and events, and provides study opportunities at the second- and third-cycle levels. Together with the Society of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers of Slovenia, it organizes a research-themed hackathon. The program is based in Ljubljana, Slovenia
