Media Manipulation is a brand led by Joan Donovan, PhD, and operated under the Technology and Social Change project (TaSC). Comprised of interdisciplinary researchers, Media Manipulation aims to analyze how contemporary communication technologies are utilized by diverse groups to bring about social change, both positive and negative. Under the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School, the TaSC team investigates the effects of misinformation and intentionally deceptive information on democracy, public health, and security.
To support the field of Critical Internet Studies, Media Manipulation's Casebook provides researchers with valuable resources such as case studies, methodologies, theories, and frameworks to effectively examine the interconnectedness of media, technology, politics, and society. Although the TaSC project concluded in September 2023, the Casebook site will remain active as a research hub. With extensive contributions from notable individuals like Joan Donovan and the support of various funding sources, Media Manipulation continues to shed light on media manipulation, disinformation campaigns, and their impact on our world today
