The Medici Archive Project (MAP) is a renowned research institution that focuses on studying the Medici Grand Dukes' collection of letters, known as the Mediceo del Principato. The Medici family, the most influential family in Renaissance and early modern Italy, ruled Tuscany for two centuries. MAP's mission is to explore the diverse aspects of Medici court life, including art, music, theater, literature, diplomacy, natural science, material culture, and more.

The Mediceo del Principato, a collection of over four million letters, provides a comprehensive record of the period. These letters were written by Medici diplomats and informants, covering political and cultural developments in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The collection also sheds light on the inner workings of the Medici court, documenting their passions, education, patronage, and everyday interactions.

To facilitate access to this vast archive, MAP developed the BIA platform. This interactive digital platform allows scholars worldwide to view the letters, make structured queries, and contribute to enriching the collection. With over 26,000 transcribed searchable documents, nearly one million digitized images, and various teaching modules, BIA has revolutionized Medici research.

Building on BIA's success, MAP established itself as a research institute and expanded its scholarly activities. It launched various research programs, initiated fellowship and internship programs, organized international conferences, published books, and curated exhibitions. Furthermore, MAP introduced the MIA platform, a more ambitious project that aims to organize and preserve millions of Medici documents from different collections.

MIA enables scholars to organize, store, share, and qualify a wide range of Medici documents, including letters, avvisi, inventories, contracts, and more. Scholars can upload their digitized documents, catalog them using specific templates, access libraries of other scholars, and conduct targeted searches within the vast collection. MIA addresses the challenges faced by researchers, providing a user-friendly system for saving and preserving Medici documents.
