About Medieombudsmannen
Medieombudsmannen (MO), also known as Allmänhetens Medieombudsman, was previously known as Pressombudsmannen (PO). MO receives and investigates complaints against the media. The brand's main objective is to ensure that Swedish media adheres to the ethical guidelines set by the industry and provide redress to individuals affected by harmful publications.
MO operates as part of the media industry's self-regulatory system, separate from any legal authority. They work in conjunction with Mediernas Etiknämnd, the governing body that makes crucial decisions on media ethics. Through MO and Mediernas Etiknämnd, harmful publications can be addressed without the need for legislative interventions that may restrict the freedom of the press.
