Medievalis

Medievalis is a historical reenactment event in Pontremoli, organised by the Compagnia del Piagnaro, a nonprofit association founded in 2005 to promote the area’s history and cultural memory. Held each August, the five-day festival commemorates the 1226 grant of free commune status to Pontremoli by Emperor Frederick II. For the occasion, the historic centre is transformed into a medieval setting, with traffic excluded and streets animated by travellers, merchants, carriages, knights and costumed figures representing different social groups.

The programme features historical performances and activities presented by the association’s groups, including flag-throwers, musicians, dancers, archers, armed participants and other reenactors. Medievalis also offers a medieval wedding experience and events for visitors interested in local history and traditions.
