MedSafer

MedSafer is a clinical research program focused on safer medication prescribing for older adults. Its electronic deprescribing tool is designed to help physicians and pharmacists identify opportunities to reduce or stop medications safely, supporting thoughtful decisions for people who may be affected by polypharmacy. The program brings together clinician researchers with expertise in geriatric medicine, internal medicine, and geriatric pharmacotherapy, and has involved study sites at institutions across Canada.

Alongside its research, MedSafer offers products and services for use beyond research settings. These include integration with electronic medical records in long-term care and an application programming interface (API) that can connect the tool with other software. The organization also describes a public-facing version for patients and families to use at home as forthcoming.
