About MeetFactory
MeetFactory is a non-profit international center for contemporary art, founded in 2001 by artist David Černý. Initially located in Holešovice, the center was forced to relocate after the devastating floods of 2002. It found a new home three years later in Prague's Smíchov quarter, nestled between a motorway and an active railroad.
After extensive reconstruction in 2007, the program finally commenced. The aim of MeetFactory is to create a platform for dialogue between various art forms, making the current happenings on the art scene accessible to a wide audience. With a mission to support original projects in visual arts, theater, and music, as well as interdisciplinary and experimental platforms, MeetFactory serves as a space where art comes alive.
The center consists of four main departments: music, theatre, gallery, and the artist-in-residence program. The music program showcases the independent music scene through six to eight performances each month in a state-of-the-art music hall. The theatre program focuses on contemporary prose and experimental interdisciplinary projects, often involving visual artists and musicians.
The three galleries at MeetFactory offer critical confrontation of national and international art scenes. The MeetFactory Gallery focuses on curatorial projects, while the Kostka Gallery features solo shows by emerging and established artists. The Wall Gallery exhibits large-scale realizations that go beyond street art.
The international Artist-in-Residence program at MeetFactory is the largest studio program in the Czech Republic. It facilitates fifteen studios, welcoming over thirty visual artists, curators, musicians, theatre directors, and writers each year. The center encourages the involvement of their artists in residence not only within their own programming, but also within the broader Czech and Central European art scenes.
In addition to the four main departments, MeetFactory also organizes inter-genre and educational projects, providing the public with new opportunities to engage with contemporary art. Supported by a board of prominent figures from the arts and music industries, MeetFactory continues to thrive as a vibrant hub for artistic exploration
