Megaphone is an independent media platform that produces multimedia content covering current news, as well as publishing social and cultural analyses in formats suitable for digital media. Our approach aims to make Lebanese politics accessible to an audience that feels disillusioned by mainstream media approaches. We started with a few monthly videos that cover issues ignored by traditional media or offer a critical perspective on current affairs.

We then expanded to daily news coverage and investigative journalism, in an attempt to create alternative narratives. Two years after the October revolution and the subsequent collapse, we began producing research materials that reflect the transformations in our society and attempt to present new political ideas. Megaphone designs its content to suit various social media platforms, reaching audiences where they are.

Today, we have active channels on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, in addition to this website which hosts all our articles. This website is still under development, and we hope it will soon include our full production, serving as an archive of our present. Megaphone works to dismantle dominant narratives and exposes the stories of marginalized groups and their voices, often excluded and stigmatized by traditional media.

We also play a watchdog role on authorities and the media landscape itself. Politically independent, Megaphone relies solely on funding sources that do not impose editorial restrictions, in order to keep our editorial line uncompromised. Our funding began with a group of volunteers.

But as our coverage expanded, we started relying on grants to sustain our work. Today, we have diversified our financial structure, from offering some editorial services to donation programs, in order to protect the sustainability and financial independence of our institution. Our current projects are funded by grants from multiple sources, including the European Endowment for Democracy, Organization for International Media Support, France 24, the Open Society Foundation, the Asfari Foundation, the Samir Kassir Foundation, the Arab Fund for Cultural and Arts - AFAC, and the Sigrid Rausing Trust.
