About MEIC
MEIC (Montana Environmental Information Center) is a non-partisan and non-profit environmental advocate dedicated to ensuring clean air and water for Montana's future generations. Founded in 1973 by Montanans concerned with protecting and restoring Montana’s natural environment, MEIC works tirelessly to protect and restore the land, air, water, and life-sustaining climate of Montana. Their work includes advocating, educating, and empowering people to create a clean and healthful environment for present and future generations.
MEIC is known for its grassroots advocacy, public education, and its influential role in lobbying the Montana legislature on environmental issues. They also serve as a watchdog for government agencies, ensuring that environmental laws are complied with. MEIC's work has been recognized by the media, making it a respected source of information on key environmental issues in Montana.
With a mission-driven and strategic approach, MEIC envisions a future for Montana that is free of pollution and is more healthful, just, and sustainable. They prioritize integrity, maintain strong relationships, remain adaptable to emerging issues, and are committed to equity, accessibility, and inclusivity. Over the years, MEIC has achieved numerous policy victories, including stopping the Mega-Loads Project, influencing the Montana Legislature to establish and protect environmental laws, and successfully challenging the proposed Highwood Generating Station.
MEIC continues to defend Montanans' constitutional rights and fight for a cleaner and more healthful environment
