MélanieCros Tapisserie

Mélanie Cros is a French fiber artist and tapestry weaver specializing in haute-lisse, or high-warp tapestry. Her practice brings together the tradition of an ancient, meticulous craft and a contemporary artistic perspective. She creates distinctive woven works that combine realism and texture, adding an individual touch to each piece.

Passionate about thread from childhood, Cros trained for four years at a haute-lisse workshop after discovering contemporary tapestries at the Manufacture des Gobelins. She received her diploma as a licière artist in 2016 and ranked first in the French Ministry of Culture’s Technicien d’art competition. She later contributed to the installation and weaving of tapestries by contemporary artists, including Kiki Smith, Pierre Antonuicci, Isabelle Champion Métadier, and Alexander Tovborg.

In 2021, Cros established her own haute-lisse studio, where she develops personal collections and undertakes made-to-measure commissions. Her work has been recognized with awards including the Prix du jeune espoir de l’Artisanat d’Art, the Prix d’excellence de tapisserie, and the Médaille de Vermeil from the Académie des Arts, Sciences et Lettres.
