About Melbourne Press Club
The Melbourne Press Club has been at the heart of Melbourne's media community for over 50 years. It serves as a platform for journalists and professionals in related fields to engage with key figures in national debates and discuss pressing issues that resonate with the Victorian public. The club not only provides resources and programs for professional development but also champions industry concerns like media freedom and defamation law reform.
Each year, the Club hosts the highly esteemed Quill Awards, recognizing journalistic excellence, along with the Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year and the Harry Gordon Australian Sports Journalist of the Year Awards. The Club also proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary of the Young Journalist of the Year Award in 2023, highlighting its ongoing commitment to nurturing and honoring emerging talent in journalism. In its events, the club has welcomed influential speakers including Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, political leaders, renowned authors, sports personalities, and top business executives.
