The MEMOLA Project (Mediterranean MOuntainous LAndscapes) is an innovative interdisciplinary initiative dedicated to the exploration and preservation of Mediterranean mountainous cultural landscapes. With a strong emphasis on the interplay between historical studies and the management of vital natural resources—namely water and soil—the project focuses on four key regions: Sierra Nevada in Spain, Monti di Trapani and Colli Euganei in Italy, and the Vjosa Valley in Albania.

MEMOLA aims to understand and document the historical and contemporary land use practices that have shaped these landscapes, promoting sustainable development and conservation. Through rigorous research that includes archaeology, hydrology, agronomy, and ethnography, the project engages in community outreach and education, organizing conferences, workshops, and exhibitions. The MEMOLA Network fosters exchange of knowledge and cultural strategies essential for maintaining agricultural traditions and addressing modern challenges such as climate change and rural depopulation, ultimately enriching both local and broader European society.
