In Aotearoa, we lose eight men every week to suicide. Eight good men. Eight pillars of their whānau. Eight lives gone too soon. That’s a husband every day who doesn’t make it home to his wife. A father every day whose kids are left waiting at the door. A brother a day not showing up for

Men Making Miles, also known as Ngā Tāne Hanga Maero, is an Aotearoa-based registered charity working to improve men’s mental health and reduce suicide by breaking the stigma around speaking openly. Founded by everyday men, the organisation offers a welcoming space where tāne can find support, connection and a sense of brotherhood without judgement or pressure.
Its approach brings together honest kōrero and physical movement. Kōrero sessions give men a safe place to share what they are carrying, while movement training and exercise help strengthen the body and support mental wellbeing. Together, these activities aim to foster connection, clarity and belonging. Men Making Miles also provides free classes for men seeking a conversation, a workout or simply a place where they feel understood.
The charity’s kaupapa is grounded in the belief that men should not have to face challenges alone. Through its classes and community-focused work, it encourages men to speak up, build relationships and support one another.
