About Menschenrechtszentrum Cottbus
Menschenrechtszentrum Cottbus is a brand committed to preserving and educating about human rights. Founded in October 2007 by former political prisoners of the GDR, Menschenrechtszentrum Cottbus e. V.
(MRZ) is the owner and operator of the Gedenkstätte Zuchthaus Cottbus, a former prison from 1860-2002. The center aims to bring awareness to the political injustices during the Nazi regime and the SED dictatorship. The Gedenkstätte Zuchthaus Cottbus offers several permanent and temporary exhibitions, showcasing examples of political injustices from both German dictatorships of the 20th century.
Visitors can explore the main building, former prison cells, the VEB Pentacon Dresden workshop, and two reconstructed DDR prisoner transporters.
