The Bus is Merced County's regional transit system, formed in July 1996 through the consolidation of four local public transit service providers. As the primary public transportation service provider for the whole county, The Bus operates 15 fixed routes throughout the region and provides paratransit service for qualifying individuals who cannot access the fixed-route service. Administered by the Transit Joint Powers Authority for Merced County, The Bus is governed by an 11-member board of elected officials from each of the six incorporated cities in Merced County, along with the five members of the Board of Supervisors.
