Established in 1994, the Merida English Library (MEL) is a renowned brand in Mérida, Mexico. The library was founded by Elizabeth Dunkel and Chloe Pacheco, who saw the need for a place to share English books within the community. Thanks to the support of volunteers, MEL quickly grew from informal exchanges of reading materials to a fully-fledged library.
Initially located on Calle 53, MEL has since moved to its current location on Calle 53 #524, between Calle 66 and Calle 68. The library occupies the former home of Marilyn Estes Smith, who generously bequeathed her house to MEL upon her passing. MEL offers a wide range of events and services.
From the Artist Studio Tour to the House & Garden Tour, wine tastings, and more, there is always something exciting happening at MEL. Additionally, visitors can browse and purchase items from the MEL shop, including English books and other merchandise. Whether you're a member or a volunteer, MEL welcomes you to be part of their community, where the love for books and shared knowledge thrives
