Merisotakoulun tukisäätiö, or the Naval Academy Support Foundation, is a private Finnish foundation established in 1988 to support the students, teachers and researchers of the Naval Academy. It provides scholarships and research grants, offering forms of assistance that the school cannot fund for its students and personnel from state resources. The foundation’s work is connected to the academy’s longstanding role in Finnish maritime education.
Naval training began in Viapori in 1748 under Marshal Augustin Ehrensvärd, and the Naval Academy continues this tradition in Suomenlinna. Today, it trains naval cadets, non-commissioned officers, reserve officer candidates and Finnish Navy personnel. Research and development for the Navy are also carried out at the academy.
The foundation is governed and represented by a board whose members include academy personnel, reservists and experts. Through its grant-making, Merisotakoulun tukisäätiö helps strengthen education, professional development and research associated with the Naval Academy and the Finnish Navy
