Merrimack Historical Society is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to researching and preserving the history of Merrimack, New Hampshire. Serving its members and the wider community, the Society shares local heritage through museums, historical research, a virtual library, photo galleries, publications, videos, events, and monthly meetings. Visitors can explore subjects including Merrimack’s people, buildings, schoolhouses, and wartime history, while community members can support the organization through membership, sponsorship, donations, or volunteering.
A featured destination is Merrimack District Schoolhouse #12, located at 520 Boston Post Road. Built in 1847, the one-room schoolhouse served students until 1947 and now hosts educational field trips for schools and youth groups. Available in fall and spring, the two-hour visits combine activities and hands-on learning about history, science, and culture. Groups are limited to 23 students and two chaperones; homeschool, scout, club, and community groups can inquire about scheduling. The Society also offers open-house hours at its 10 Depot Street location on the first Saturday of each month and welcomes people interested in discovering Merrimack’s past.
