Merthyr Tydfil and District Model Engineering Society is a local organisation that runs Cyfarthfa Miniature Railway and welcomes visitors and new members. The railway offers public rides on a miniature steam train, providing an opportunity for families and railway enthusiasts to enjoy a heritage-inspired outing. For the 2026 season, the site says the railway is open from 1 April, with regular weekend services from 12 noon to 4:30 pm and daily opening during school holidays. The season is scheduled to run until late September, subject to weather and the availability of volunteers and staff. Visitors can check the society’s Facebook pages for current events and updates.

The society also offers children’s birthday parties at its site. Parties take place in a new building, and guests can enjoy a ride on the steam train. Those interested in joining and helping to run or operate the live steam railway are invited to get in touch.
