Mescal Canyon Retreat at Candlewood is a secluded, off-the-grid bed and breakfast in Clarkdale, Arizona, set in Mescal Canyon beside National Forest and within reach of Sedona’s red rock country. Created by hosts Andrea and Rennie, the retreat combines rustic Southwest character with sustainable, hand-built features, including passive-solar design and a permaculture landscape with a terraced organic garden.

Guests stay in one of two bed-and-breakfast rooms in a separate stone building, each with a private bathroom and patio. The grounds also offer a secluded hot tub, fireplace, canyon views and foothill trails. A community studio provides a full kitchen and spaces for dining and relaxing, allowing guests to prepare their own meals. The retreat serves vegetarian whole-food meals, including fresh produce from its garden, and offers massage therapy indoors or outdoors.

Mescal Canyon Retreat also hosts meetings, group gatherings and other events in its Cedar Studio, a certified green building with a fireplace, radiant floor heat and small amphitheater.
