Messy Suitcase! celebrates a new kind of retirement, through travel and adventure! In 2018, Bob Greenawalt and Lisa Hamm-Greenawalt left work, packed up our truck with two bikes, a few suitcases, three musical instruments, three cats, and our kid (on a gap year before college), and hit the road to explore the planet. To live on less, and experience more. Life happened, COVID reeled us in a bit, and cats expressed their disdain for constant travel, so now we split time between Puerto Rico (winter) and Vermont (summer), while traveling whenever possible. We hope to inspire other people who have stopped working to live a different life, full of new discoveries -- because life is short, and the world is big! About Messy Suitcase Travel Blog
Messy Suitcase is a brand that encompasses a travel blog and a YouTube channel, offering a unique perspective on retirement and life. Beto Greenawalt and Lisa Hamm-Greenawalt, the couple behind Messy Suitcase, have reinvented retirement by embracing travel and new experiences. Through their blog and videos, they inspire others to be more adventurous in their later stages of life.
Their journey began in 2018 when they left Colorado with their Tacoma truck, two bikes, a few suitcases, three musical instruments, and three cats. They have since traveled around Europe, visited family and friends in the USA, and explored various cities in Mexico. At Messy Suitcase, their mission is to open minds and hearts, collect experiences instead of material possessions, and live a fulfilling life with less.
They spend extended periods in different places, immersing themselves in the local culture. They also avoid high-crime areas and strive to learn the local language. In addition to their travel adventures, Lisa is a children's book author, and Bob advocates for education in Colorado.
Although their travel plans have been affected by life events and the pandemic, they continue to approach life as an adventure. They recently purchased a house in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, where they plan to spend their winters as nomadic snowbirds. They spend summers at their family's lake house in Vermont and travel in between seasons.
Messy Suitcase invites you to join their journey, as they believe that life is short and the world is big. Through their travel stories and videos, they aim to inspire and empower others to explore and embrace new experiences
