**Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS)**

Established in the early 1940s, the Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) plays a crucial role in providing seismological and meteorological services across the Maldives. Initially, it started with basic weather instruments and has evolved significantly over the decades. MMS became the national meteorological center in 1980 and has since expanded its operations to include five meteorological offices, a network of 20 automated weather stations, and three tide gauges, all working 24/7 to ensure continuous monitoring.

MMS offers a range of services including daily weather forecasts, aviation forecasts, marine forecasts, and warnings for natural disasters. They are also responsible for issuing earthquake and tsunami alerts in collaboration with global networks. Their commitment to delivering accurate and timely meteorological information supports the nation’s socio-economic development while reducing the risks associated with natural disasters. Through ongoing capacity building and adherence to international standards, MMS continues to enhance its capabilities to better serve the Maldives.
