METHYLOMIC is a four-year European research project focused on bringing personalised treatment selection into clinical practice for Crohn’s disease and other immune-mediated inflammatory conditions. Its central aim is to develop and clinically validate an epigenetic biomarker tool using DNA methylation markers to help predict how individual patients will respond to biological treatments. By identifying treatments most likely to work, the project seeks to support more effective and efficient use of existing therapies.
The research addresses Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. For rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, the project includes the EPIPSORA trial, which will investigate whether epigenetic biomarkers can predict treatment success. METHYLOMIC brings together 17 partners across nine countries and has a stated budget of 10 million. It has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under grant agreement No. 101095449.
Alongside its research, the project provides information for patients, including condition-specific resources, guidance on how to participate, and patient testimonials. Its website also shares project updates, results and publications.
