METIS, which stands for Mobile and Wireless Communications Enablers for the Information Society, is a European consortium consisting of 29 partners led by Ericsson. With a strong focus on research and development, METIS aims to lay the foundation for the future of mobile and wireless communications beyond 2020. Co-funded by the European Commission as an Integrated Project under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), METIS brings together manufacturers, telecommunications operators, academic institutions, the automotive industry, and a research center.

This diverse collaboration allows for a comprehensive exploration of fundamental questions related to the development of the future communications system, leading to a European-led early global consensus. Over a 30-month duration, approximately 80 dedicated professionals will work on METIS, focusing on creating a platform for future standardization.
