About Métis Nation of Ontario
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), established in 1993, is the government representing Métis people and communities in the province. The MNO's vision, encapsulated in the Statement of Prime Purpose, focuses on creating a Métis-specific governance structure, building a credible identification system, and supporting the well-being of Métis citizens and communities. The MNO has developed a province-wide governance structure, including Chartered Community Councils, a centralized registry of over 25,000 citizens, and a provincial governing body.
Additionally, it maintains service delivery points, administers over $75 million annually, and employs over 320 personnel, delivering programs and services in areas such as Healing and Wellness, Education and Training, Housing, and Lands and Resources. The MNO also has a cultural commission and an economic development arm.
