About MIAT Walsall
Midland International Aid Trust (MIAT) is a Walsall-based charity formed in 2003 and registered in 2005. Founded by Mohammed Aslam MBE and Professor Abdul Rashid Gatrad OBE, it works to provide medical care where local infrastructure exists and deliver humanitarian assistance in more than 20 countries affected by disasters, conflict and other emergencies. Its projects include medical and surgical aid, hospital and clinic support, basic medicines, health initiatives, and donations of medical equipment.
MIAT also supports education and vocational training, including bursaries, and runs local and national health and community projects. Its work includes initiatives addressing cleft conditions, clubfoot, cataracts, limb needs and womenโs health. The trust collaborates with Doctors of Rahmah, a group of surgical specialists and anaesthetists, to strengthen rapid medical responses.
MIAT also hosts WASUP, a project founded in 2017 to tackle single-use plastic and raise awareness of environmental impacts through education, recycling and community clean-ups. Donations help fund its humanitarian, medical and education programmes
