Middletown Cemetery District is a public cemetery district serving the Middletown area of Lake County, California. Formed in 1966, the District’s mission is to provide a peaceful environment for loved ones and a serene place to visit. Its cemetery is located at 16357 Butts Canyon Road, at the southeast corner of Butts Canyon Road and Highway 29.
The cemetery’s history dates to 1889, when John Good, Sr., and John Reinike donated land that became the Middletown Cemetery. Over time, burial sites from the Fiege Ranch, Rabbit Hill, and within Middletown’s town limits were relocated there. In 1991, the District acquired the Catholic Cemetery, adding more than five acres to the original grounds.
The cemetery serves residents and taxpayers within the District, along with their families. Its boundaries extend from Hofacker Lane to the Napa County line and west toward Highway 175 near Whispering Pines. A five-member volunteer board governs the District.
