The Mid Richmond Education Fund is a community-supported organization that provides financial assistance to local young people pursuing education, training, and vocational goals. It recognises that rural students may face higher costs than their city-based peers when moving on to further study or work, and aims to help those who need financial support. The Fund assists with a broad range of pathways, including trade apprenticeships, traineeships, university degrees, and diplomas in areas such as tourism, hospitality, rural industries, and fisheries.
Support is not awarded on academic achievement alone: applicants are assessed on whether they have a realistic goal, have shown commitment to pursuing it, and need assistance to make progress. Applications are reviewed by an interview panel, with shortlisted candidates invited to attend an interview. The Fund does not provide cash directly; payments go to service providers or reimburse students for expenses agreed in advance.
Its income comes entirely from community fundraising and donations, rather than government sources, enabling local people and businesses to support young people in their region
