Mikael-kylät Oy is a social enterprise based in the Lahti area of Finland, providing housing, work activities and day services for young people and adults with intellectual disabilities. Its services are designed to support individual lives within a welcoming community, where people can participate, develop their abilities and build meaningful everyday routines.
The organisation operates round-the-clock housing in a 20-apartment residential building on Opinkatu, as well as a supported living unit on Lepolankatu, near central Lahti. Its work and day activities include Mandala, a culture and crafts workshop; a food preparation workshop; and an outdoor maintenance workshop run by the Kylätalkkarit. A bakery workshop is located in central Lahti. Mikael-kylät also runs MeaManna, a lunch café at the Lahti City Library.
The community’s approach emphasises inclusion, understanding, trust and sustainable development. Mikael-kylät aims to recognise each person’s potential and foster supportive social connections, so that everyone can feel accepted, take part in community life and avoid loneliness.
