Mike Lacher is a writer, creative director, and occasional coder whose work brings humor, technology, and storytelling together. He creates articles, games, videos, stunts, bots, and brand strategies, often exploring internet culture and unexpected ways to engage audiences. His projects range from “How Bad Is Your Spotify?”, an AI-powered critique of music taste, to “GOODY-2,” presented as the world’s most responsible AI model, and “Dookie Demastered,” which reimagined Green Day’s album across obscure formats.
Lacher has also made interactive work, including an Emmy-nominated New York Times game about waiting to vote, as well as books, creative campaigns, and digital experiences. He spent nearly a decade developing and branding products at Google, including work with Google Creative Lab, and was among BuzzFeed’s first creative directors, producing videos, stunts, games, and bots. A founder and member of the art studio BRAIN, Lacher works across writing, creative direction, coding, branding, and strategy.
Based in Minneapolis, he describes his practice as spanning both funny and serious ideas
