Mi'kmaw History Month, celebrated under the banner of Wi'kipatmu'k Mi'kmawey, is a vibrant initiative committed to honoring and promoting the rich traditions and heritage of the Mi'kmaw people. This annual celebration not only highlights important cultural events but also focuses on the significance of food within Mi'kmaw culture, symbolized by the theme "Mijipjewey Na Mawa’luksi’k" (Food Gathers Us Together). Food is central to Mi'kmaw ceremonies, nourishment, and community bonding, reflecting the enduring connection between people and nature.

The initiative invites everyone to engage in cultural activities, celebrate Mi'kmaw heritage, and honor long-standing treaty relationships with all living beings in Mi’kma’ki. Additionally, the program offers resources for event organization, funding applications for cultural events, and a comprehensive calendar of Mi'kmaw History Month festivities. Through these efforts, Mi'kmaw History Month fosters an appreciation for the depth of Mi'kmaw history and emphasizes the importance of protecting and sustaining cultural and environmental traditions.
