GDF Guyana

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is the military institution of Guyana, established in 1965 to safeguard the nation's territorial integrity and support civil authorities in maintaining law and order. Comprising approximately 4,150 soldiers, the GDF operates from numerous military bases across the country and is led by the President of Guyana as its Commander-in-Chief. The GDF is organized into several specialized units, including the Infantry Battalion, Artillery Company, Special Forces, Engineering Corps, and the Coast Guard.

Each unit plays a vital role in national defense and contributes to the economic development of Guyana. The force also engages in humanitarian efforts, such as medical mercy flights and infrastructure construction. Training programs are comprehensive, with officers receiving instruction from prestigious British military academies.

Enlistment is voluntary, and the GDF also prepares its members for transitions into civilian life or integration into the Guyana People’s Militia and National Service. The GDF's motto, “SERVICE,” reflects its commitment to the nation and its people
