Miles for Trees is an environmental initiative founded by Manuel Rasch that connects endurance sport with reforestation. Its central idea is simple: for every mile completed through sport, a tree is planted, inviting participants to turn personal activity into practical support for a greener planet. The project supports restoration work in the Mount Bamboutos region of Cameroon, an area affected by deforestation and intensive agriculture. The planting project, launched in 2018 by the Environment and Rural Development Foundation (ERuDeF) with several supporting organisations, aims to restore forests, strengthen biodiversity, protect water resources, improve local livelihoods and contribute to climate stability.
Miles for Trees also raises awareness through the MFT Challenge. Its featured endurance event is a planned 2,679-kilometre gravel-bike journey through Romania’s Carpathian Mountains, covering about 47,000 metres of elevation in approximately 22 days. Visitors can follow the challenge, learn about the mission and contribute by planting trees. The initiative is supported by partners including Sports for Future and sports-travel specialist SOMMERKIND Sportreisen.
