Millennium Elephant Foundation is an organization and charity dedicated to rescuing and caring for captive Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. Situated on a 15-acre estate called Samaragiri, located within the Sabaragamuwa Province, the foundation has been working tirelessly since its founding in 1999. Home to nine elephants aged 15 to 53, MEF provides a safe sanctuary for these majestic creatures.

They offer various programs, allowing visitors and volunteers to observe and walk with the elephants, as well as assist with their daily washing in the Kuda Oya River. The funds generated from these programs are used for the elephants' well-being and to rescue and care for more captive elephants. MEF strictly abides by the guidelines set by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, ensuring responsible and ethical practices.

In addition, MEF operates the Footsteps Elephant Consultancy, which is the only mahout training program recognized and accredited by the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife.
