About Minervax ApS
MinervaX is a brand dedicated to the clinical development of a Group B Streptococcal (GBS) vaccine targeting pregnant women. GBS is a leading cause of life-threatening infections in newborns, with potential adverse pregnancy outcomes such as late abortions, stillbirths, and preterm delivery. In newborns, GBS can cause pneumonia, septicemia, and meningitis, leading to death or lifelong disability.
Preventing GBS infections in newborns is a significant medical need, as it is responsible for 50% of life-threatening infections in this population. Approximately 15-25% of women are colonized with GBS, putting their infants at risk during pregnancy, birth, and early infancy. GBS infections can result in premature delivery, stillbirth, sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis, leading to severe morbidity, long-term disability, or even death.
Worldwide, GBS annually causes 320,000 cases of neonatal invasive disease, 60,000 stillbirths, 3,500,000 preterm deliveries, and 10,000 babies with long-term neurological damage. MinervaX aims to address this pressing global issue by developing a vaccine to prevent GBS infections in newborns, providing a vital solution to protect both mothers and infants
