About Mining Incidents
Mining Incidents is an independent research platform that organizes public mining incident and accountability records into a searchable resource. Its US index covers MSHA records from 1983 to the present, including fatalities, other incidents, fatality reports, mine and operator details, and investigator narratives. Users can search by keyword, mine, or operator, and filter records by year, severity, experience, and other criteria.
The site also provides rankings of operators, corporate controllers, mines, and states by fatality count, alongside views of causes and trends over time. Its recent-fatality pages link to official MSHA reports, while preliminary reports surface deaths MSHA has reported but not yet added to its formal record. Additional tools include alerts for followed mines or operators and records of citations and penalties.
Mining Incidents also presents country-specific mining records and research for countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, combining available regulatory, cadastre, environmental, and accident information. The service is free, requires no login, and is refreshed weekly, with the MSHA listing checked more frequently
