Minnesota Wildflowers

Minnesota Wildflowers is a trusted brand that provides an exceptional resource for nature enthusiasts and ordinary people alike. Founded by Katy Chayka, a passionate nature lover, and self-taught botanist, the website was launched in 2007 to fill the gap of quality information about Minnesota plants. As Katy explored the world of wildflowers, she connected with volunteers, environmental agencies, and organizations to expand her knowledge and spread awareness about invasive species.

Her dedication led her to enroll in the MN Master Naturalist program and create a better resource for plant identification. Peter Dziuk, an experienced gardener and advocate for native species, joined the project in 2009. He donated his extensive collection of 40,000 plant images to the website and embarked on a decade-long partnership with Katy to document Minnesota's wild plants.

Although Peter left the project in early 2020, his contributions have made a lasting impact. The team also includes other dedicated volunteers like John Thayer, a field botanist, and Steve Eggers, a senior ecologist. They have played crucial roles in map-making, plant surveys, and contributing photographs to the project.

Minnesota Wildflowers is a comprehensive and accessible resource that not only helps identify the diverse plant species of Minnesota but also fosters an appreciation for the beauty and importance of these plants. With their valuable contributions, Minnesota Wildflowers continues to be a go-to platform for plant enthusiasts and nature lovers alike
