Mirek

Mirena is a prescription intrauterine device (IUD) from Bayer, designed to provide long-acting contraception and help manage heavy menstrual bleeding. It releases levonorgestrel, a hormone, and is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy for up to eight years. For women who choose an IUD for birth control, Mirena is also FDA-approved to decrease menstrual blood loss for up to five years.

The brand’s website provides information to help people discuss whether Mirena may suit their needs with a healthcare provider. Resources cover how the IUD works, what to expect during placement and removal, safety considerations, frequently asked questions, and use in contexts such as motherhood and perimenopause. Visitors can also find information about heavy periods, cost and insurance coverage, and download patient brochures in English or Spanish.

Mirena is not appropriate for everyone and does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections. The site encourages users to review the full prescribing information and consult a healthcare provider about benefits, risks, and suitability. Mirena is available by prescription only.
