Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Covilhã is a Portuguese social solidarity institution dedicated to improving quality of life and supporting people in vulnerable circumstances. Founded in 1577, it draws on a long tradition of community service and describes its work as care delivered with compassion and a commitment to people and the wider community.
Its services span several stages of life and areas of need. For older adults, the institution offers two residential care facilities, alongside social support and a social assistance and follow-up service. For children and young people, it provides early childhood and preschool services through programmes including O Meu Cantinho, Capuchinho Vermelho and Mundo da Fantasia. Health services include a diagnostic centre and a wellbeing and health centre.
The organisation also develops community programmes and projects, including initiatives focused on social inclusion, family support, welcoming and accommodation services, and home support. Through these responses, Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Covilhã works to strengthen individuals and families, promote social development, and help build a more supportive community.
