Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Fundão is a major social-sector organisation serving communities in the municipalities of Fundão, Covilhã and Penamacor. Its work focuses on solidarity, health, education, culture, training, social inclusion and meaningful activities for people who may need additional support, including children, older adults and unemployed people. The organisation supports more than 3,000 people each day and employs around 300 staff directly.

Its services include a crèche, kindergarten and leisure-time activities for children, alongside residential care, day centres and home support for older people. Health provision includes continuing-care services for people requiring medium- or long-term rehabilitation and support. The organisation also operates a social-action office and offers services such as music and dance education through the Fundão Academy of Music and Dance, rural learning at the Fundão Pedagogical Farm, and Cozinha P’ra Si, a social-integration catering business specialising in takeaway.

Santa Casa aims to improve its services, including residential and home care, with attention to medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and activities that support users’ well-being.
